Most visitors naturally think of hotels when planning where they will stay on vacation. The Big Island of Hawaii offers a huge variety of vacation rentals and are worth consideration the next time you plan a trip to Hawaii. Most people think of vacation rentals or condos as significantly more expensive than a traditional hotel room, but on the Big Island, there are plenty of vacation rental discounts that might surprise you.

We searched online and found many vacation rentals comparable to a tourist-class hotel room rate.  In fact, we found several vacation rentals cheaper than one hundred dollars a night!  Many travelers swear by vacation rentals because of the added room, full kitchen and appliances, laundry facilities, and bonus amenities.  Many rentals will offer extras such as beach chairs, beach umbrellas and more. Vacation rentals can be an excellent deal, especially when staying more than a week.  Some vacation rentals offer multiple bedrooms, a great idea for large families or groups.  The condos in Kona usually offer access to a private swimming pool and outdoors patio area as well.

The town of Kailua-Kona offers a large selection of vacation rental condos in and around town, many oceanfront, and most with ocean view.  A large assortment of condos is also located at the south end of Alii Drive, at the southern edge of Kailua town within walking distance of several beaches, surfing and snorkeling spots.  The vacation rentals in Kailua-Kona are very convenient because of the proximity to all the attractions in town.  If you are staying here, you can simply walk to and from all the stores, restaurants, and points of interest.

Many vacation rental condos require a minimum stay of two or three nights.  Also, many condos will tack on housekeeping and linen fees - although some rentals waive those fees if you stay one week or more.  Often, the rental rates are more expensive during peak season.  Make sure you read the fine print and find out about your obligations prior to checkout - some rentals require you to wash all dishes, towels, linens, etc. prior to checkout.

If you decide to rent a condo in Kona, you will appreciate the convenience and home-like hospitality while on your Big Island vacation.  Check out our list of Hawaii vacation rentals is conveniently organized by Island, and by city and landmark.
