Accommodation options on the Big Island vary from reasonably priced tourist-class hotels to the most luxuriously priced extravagant resorts.  It is up to you to decide whether you wish to splurge and indulge yourself with the opulence of the world-class resorts of whether you are budget-minded and would rather stay in a more modest hotel with less amenities.

Many visitors to the Big Island gravitate to the Kohala Coast resorts because of what the hotels have to offer.  World renowned championship golf courses, pampering spa facilities, and passionate hospitality are perks these resorts have to offer.  The Hilton Waikoloa is such an expansive resort that it sports a tram and ferry system to transport its guests around the resort grounds.  Some resort suites in Kohala even have their own private infinity pools. These resorts offer secluded privacy and ultimate relaxation.  The Kona Village Resort offers private bungalows right on the water, with no neighbors other than the sea turtles basking on the beach.  Many visitors check into these resorts and never leave the premises during their entire vacation!

Other more cost-minded visitors will choose to the more conservative accommodations in the tourist district of Kailua-Kona. Here, hotels are more modest and prices much more reasonable, some less than one hundred dollars a night.  Additionally, here is where you will find the most vacation rental condos available. Vacation rentals can be a bargain, many averaging about one hundred dollars a night with full kitchens and laundry facilities.  Many condos are located right on Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona, near all of the action.

No matter where you stay, one thing to note is the public beach access laws in Hawaii.  That is the public must be granted free, unfettered access to every beach on the island.  That means that even though the Hapuna Prince and Mauna Kea hotels are located on pristine beaches, these same beaches are open to the public.  So don't think that the island's best beaches are out of reach if you don't stay in these resorts.
